“Marmaris Cleopatra Island Tour” is an excursion in which history and boat trip combined. What makes this excursion so special is “The Cleopatra Beach”. Most part of the tour is a boat trip where you visit different bays with turquoise, clear water for swimming breaks just as a regular boat trip. The region that the boat cruises is in the Gokova Bay, about 20-30 minutes drive away from Marmaris.

There is a love story in the history of “the Cleopatra Island” (Sedir Island). It is believed that the Roman general Mark Antonius, was in love with the Queen of Egypt Cleopatra (1st Century B.C.). Cleopatra did not want to leave Egypt for her honeymoon. To make Cleopatra feel home in Egypt, Mark Antonius had brought many ship loads of special, golden silky sand from Egypt, the Red Sea, to “the Cleopatra Beach”. They have spent their honeymoon here.

“Marmaris Cleopatra Island Tour” is worth experiencing. You will see some countryside while driving and have chance to swim in a different bay. Also see “the Cleopatra Beach” with some historical sites.

First part of the excursion is taken by bus ( 30 minutes ) then most part of the tour is by boat ( 2 – 2,5 hours) – then on “the Cleopatra Beach” ( 3 hours).

Pick up time for “Marmaris Cleopatra Island Tour” is about 8:30 & it is Everyday

1 – You will be picked-up from your hotel:

You will be picked-up from your hotel or any location in Marmaris and Icmeler. All other guests that are taking this tour will be collected as well.

2 – Departure and the Tour:

Once all participants are picked-up, you will depart by the same bus/minibus towards Cleopatra Island (Sedir Island). After 30 to 45 minutes drive through countryside roads, you will arrive to the “Gokova Bay”, to the place where you will be going on the boat (wooden Turkish boat) in which you will be spending most of your beautiful day, before getting on to “the Cleopatra Beach”.

The boat has lower deck and upper deck (where the sun-beds are). Lower deck has tables in the shade and the upper deck has the sun-beds for sun-bathing. Just pick a space and seat yourselves. You will be spending about 2 – 2,5 hours on this boat, visiting different bays of the “Gokova Bay”. There will be 2 swimming break in the turquoise clear waters of “the Aegean Sea”.

While you are swimming, enjoying yourselves on the boat; the boat crew will be preparing barbecue lunch (included in the price). When ready lunch will be served. After lunch, the boat will head to “the Cleopatra Island” where you will spend about 3 hours free time.

Once on “the Cleopatra Island” go walk on the silky beach, swim, sunbathe, visit the historical sites. Please beware that this beach is strictly protected by government. You are NOT allowed to take any sand from the beach. Sometimes they allow you to use the beach to sunbath but most of the time NOT. You are allowed to swim and sunbathe at the back of “the Cleopatra Beach” where there is no silky sand. This sand is so special that it is hard to find & to come across.

The historical amphitheater is located among the olive trees where you feel that you are really in the Mediterranean. Gokova bay is also surrounded with very high mountains with amazing views. Most part of the this area is covered with olive trees.

Historical sites are “the Temple”, “the Amphitheater”, and ”the City Walls” that come from the Roman, Byzantines and Hellenistic periods.

3 – Returning back to Marmaris:

Once the 3 hours time on “the Cleopatra Island” is up, everybody gets back to the boat. The boat will cruise back to the point where your bus is. Everybody gets back to the buses and head back to Marmaris. You will be dropped back to your hotel on return.
